The Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) police, on the wee hours of Sunday, foiled a bid to target girls’ school in the Ghizer District. The police arrested 13 suspects and recovered explosives from their possession.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Police, Gohar Nafees told that a group of 13 terror suspects, all students of a local seminary being run by a local Inayatullah, wanted to target girls’ schools, administered by the Agha Khan Schools network, in the District Ghizer of GB. The police, after getting a tip, arrested the suspects and recovered the explosives.
The DIG further said that the nabbed terror suspects, headed by Ahsanullah, confessed of blasting several schools in the District Diamer of GB in 2016-17. He said that the suspects also confessed their involvement in the failed attempts to target Prince Kareem Agha Khan and former Governor GB, Pir Karam Ali Shah, in a bomb attack.
Earlier this month, the extremists blasted and torched 15 girls’ schools in the District Diamer. At least one suspected terrorist involved in destroying the schools was killed whereas some two dozen suspects were taken into custody during the crackdowns in the area.
