LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Selector Inzamamul Haq has said that the target of Pakistan team is not only to defeat India but also to win the upcoming Champions Trophy.
Talking to media during his visit to Muslim Gym, he said that Pakistan team has not gone to England just to beat India but the primary purpose is to win the tournament.
Recalling the old memory, he said that Pakistan had defeated India in 2004 on the same Edgbaston ground under his captaincy. We can win again, he continued.
Pakistan to be captained by Sarfraz Ahmed will face India in their first match on June 4 in Birmingham as International Cricket Council (ICC) has put Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and South Africa in one group.
Earlier on Tuesday, six players of Pakistan cricket team including Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez departed for England to participate in the ICC Champions Trophy.
Ahmed Shehzad has not gone with the team-mates due to personal reasons and will join the squad a few days later.
The mega event will be played from June 1 to 18 and the ten-day training camp of the green shirts will be held in Birmingham before the tournament.
