ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar on Thursday during a hearing remarked that the court will examine government’s tax amnesty scheme.
CJP hearing a case related to ownership of state land, hinted that the recent tax amnesty scheme should be reviewed. He said that action should be taken against individuals who have assets abroad and maintain foreign bank accounts. Nisar remarked that state assets should not be given away.
As per a report from Moody’s, an international credit and financial ratings agency, if the tax amnesty scheme proves successful it may increase government’s revenue base.
Earlier this week, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had announced a five-point tax reforms package, detailing a tax amnesty scheme for undeclared domestic and foreign assets as well as a decrease in income tax rates.
